Final Update

Before handing in our coursework our group decided to remove the original opening
sequence to our horror movie opening. This was the slo motion build up
to the delivery room sign. we felt that even with editing it still wasn't
up to our standard of the film and we not satisfied.

The tint of the film did not seem to contrast with the rest of the sequence, this scene was a dark tint of green however the rest was a bright white colour with a higher depth of field.

The media technician Katie came up with an alternative idea of having just a recorded sound instead of having any image.

We then recorded the sound of me giving birth to a child
 with words of encouragement.

The group had agreed that this was an improved idea and contrasted well with the rest of the film.

Feedback for Final Improvements

We asked a few people of our target audience to review how are title sequence looks now. There are still improvements that are yet to be made but this feedback will help us to know if our audience is interested/understands our film.

Name: Molly
Age: 16
Favourite film: Donnie Darko

Would you be interested in watching this film?
"Definitely. It looks like psychological gore, really messed up, which interests me because it seems more controversial and moves away from the stereotypical 'ghost story' narrative."

What age do you think this film would be rated? Do you think our target audience matches the film?
"It wouldn't be lower than a 15, it would be an 18 if it had more gore. The target audience is highly appropriate, I can tell it is aimed at a more 'niche' audience"

Are there any improvements you would suggest?
"Possibly make the story more clear by adding speech"

Age: 16
Favourite Film: Submarine
Would you be interested in watching this film?

"Yes! I feel like I could really relate to the girl in it because she is a similar age to me. I also like horror films and ones that stray away from conventional jump scares, it's something different which I like."

What age do you think this film would be rated? Do you think our target audience matches the film?
"I think it would be a 15 maybe the full film would be an 18 depending on how much blood and distress of the girl, I think that's quite disturbing. It's also a touchy subject which could give it an 18 certificate."

Are there any improvements you would suggest?

"Re-ilm the start I think it looks a bit rushed and try neatening the colouring to make it look less edited and more natural."

Filming Issues

Today we encountered issues with filming our door scene. First of all, it was raining which made it difficult to carry the equipment safely. Also, there were no plugs for the lights and the memory card was missing from the camera. As its midday, there were students and walking in and out. We have rescheduled filming to Monday.

Adding Foley

We added some foley sound effects to our opening.
We downloaded them and then put them onto the cut.
For example we found a glove snapping and pouring water.

Production of Our Horror Title Sequence

For our horror film title sequence, over the past few weeks we have been in production for our rough draft. We have finished filming footage that we plan to use in the rough cut, most footage we will use for our final cut but others many need adjusting/re-filming due to lost footage or not having equipment. We have faced these problems already in our production, where some of our footage was lost and needs re-filming. Some ideas we have won't make it to the rough cut but may be used in the final one. To film and edit we have used lesson time and stayed after school to use the drama department and lights. We have selected costumes, lighting and editing styles to fit with the horror theme we want that matches with our film idea. We want the editing to be fast paced, choppy and unsure. This leaves an element of mystery and intrigue for our film, but we must also make the clips relevant. We have also tried to create our own music but this may have to be delayed till after the rough cut; for now we shall use 'Death' from Under the Skin along with our footage to see the effect of music. We are currently in the process of editing all our footage together and adding the titles.

Filming

Over the past month our group has been filming our horror opening sequence. We have stayed after school filming some shots of our surrogate opening. We had costumes and used different locations to create the scenes and shots we wanted. We used the lights in drama to make it look scarier and change the colour.

We continued to film and uploaded our footage on to the macs  to edit the clips together. We tried to follow our initial story board but some of the time we were sidetracked. We edited the footage we had. We began to order it making it choppy and disjointed.
